The Exiles

At the close of the Convict era late 1840's early 1950's, 14 exile ships carried criminals who had volunteered to be trained to fill skill shortage in Australia, on arrival they were fully pardoned and were not listed as convicts. PROV guide 57 lists the 14 ships and the number of exiles

Irish Transportation

Transportation from Ireland started in 1791. The records are incomplete due to a fire in 1922. Convict petitions have been indexed and are worth searching. Some of the available information includes relatives who came to Australia as free settlers. check the link opposite in the Ireland Australia data base.105 microfilms reels were donated to Australian 1988 and are available in several libraries in Australian and the National Museum of Australia
